Animal Crossing: Everything New in July 2024 (2024)

Quick Links

  • New Deep-Sea Creatures

  • July Events And Seasonal Items

Players should prepare for a much more laidback month in Animal Crossing New Horizons this July. Some months are defined by significant seasonal events and diverse rotations of new bugs, fish, and deep-sea creatures, but July is arguably one of the quietest months of the year in Animal Crossing. However, several rare and highly sought-after critters are returning to island this month, alongside some relaxing weekend events.

After a similarly lazy and laidback June in ACNH for players in both hemispheres, July offers a particularly sharp contrast. New critters are abundant in the Northern Hemisphere, but players in the Southern Hemisphere won't find any new critters to catch. Additionally, of the two-weekend events this July, only one is actually scheduled to run in the Southern Hemisphere.

July is a great month for catching rare beetles. Players will need to check the trees on their islands at all times of day for cicadas and stag beetles, as well as more ordinary bugs such as the humble grasshopper.

As always, bugs can be donated to Blathers at the Museum, who will reluctantly accept them despite his phobia of insects. Alternatively, they can be put on display as decorations or sold. Rare beetles such as the Scarab and Horned Hercules sell for thousands of Bells, so this is a great way to make Bells fast.

Players should also watch for the Walking Leaf, one of the most unique bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As their name suggests, walking leaves look almost identical to furniture leaves and can usually be found on the ground. However, they will flip themselves over and reveal their true nature if approached. The easiest way to catch one is to pick up all discarded furniture items. A clutter-free island will make walking leaves easier to spot.

Southern Hemisphere

No new bugs can be found in the Southern Hemisphere in July.

Three of the biggest and rarest fish also return to the Northern Hemisphere in July: the Blue Marlin, Napoleonfish, and Ocean Sunfish. With the many giant fish that returned in June, July is arguably one of the best months for players aiming to fill their Museum's fish tanks with rare aquatic animals. Much like rare bugs, rare fish also have great sell values.

A good way to earn Bells is to catch and sell Sweetfish. The Sweetfish sells for 900 Bells despite being a relatively common catch.

Diving was added to Animal Crossing New Horizons in a post-launch update. Players can purchase a wetsuit (and potentially a matching snorkel), swim in the sea around their island, and dive to catch deep-sea creatures. Deep-sea creatures typically make their presence known by telltale columns of bubbles and underwater shadows.

Rare deep-sea creatures like the giant isopod move extremely fast, making them hard to catch. The best tactic is moving the joystick slowly while the player character is above water, so they swim slowly towards any nearby bubbles. Once directly over a deep-sea creature, players can dive and catch the critter without chasing it.

Southern Hemisphere

No new deep-sea creatures can be caught in the Southern Hemisphere in July.

July Events And Seasonal Items

All Limited Timed Events

No significant events are scheduled for July; however, players can participate in two smaller weekend events. The Fishing Tourney returns on Saturday, July 13th, hosted by C.J. During the Fishing Tourney, players can participate in Fishing Tournaments by catching as many fish as they can in three minutes.

Each fish caught grants a single point, and by earning enough points, players can purchase special fishing-themed items from C.J. The first tournament is free to enter, but subsequent tournaments have an entry fee of 500 Bells.

To maximize points from the Fishing Tourney, it's highly recommended that players dig up Manila Clams and craft several packets of Bait before entering a tournament. Bait can be dropped in any body of water to spawn a fish instantly.

Apart from exchanging points for items, players can receive bronze, silver, and gold fishing tourney trophies from C.J. by earning 100, 200, and 300 points, respectively. These trophies will arrive in the mailbox the day after the Fishing Tourney. Finally, any fish caught can also be sold to C.J. at 150% of their average sell value, so players can take advantage of the Fishing Tourney to earn Bells by selling their rare fish.

Flick will also run a Bug-Off event on Saturday, July 27th. The Bug-Off event runs similarly to the Fishing Tourney: players have three minutes to catch as many bugs as possible. Catching bugs grants points, which can be exchanged for bug-themed items from Flick.

Subsequent tournaments also charge the same entry fee of 500 Bells, and Bug-Off trophies can be received through the mail. Players can also sell their bugs to Flick and receive 150% of their average sell value.

The July Bug-Off is only scheduled to run in the Northern Hemisphere. The next Bug-Off in the Southern Hemisphere is scheduled for November.

Overall, July is an excellent month for critter collectors in Animal Crossing New Horizons, with two critter-catching contests and a significant monthly rotation of new bugs, fish, and deep-sea creatures in the Northern Hemisphere. Southern Hemisphere players have less to do but can still join the Saturday tournament to test their critter-catching skills and earn special rewards.
